Before becoming KOOL 105’s night time DJ, Joey D spent his years fighting crime as a masked vigilante. While beating criminals and terrorists to a bloody pulp night after night gave him the satisfaction of helping the community, it did nothing to satisfy his soul. As he foiled some arch villian’s ridiculously convoluted scheme, he often thought to himself, “why can’t I find something that make’s me happy?”. Then one night, as he faced off against his greatest enemy, Dr. <Insert Silly Name Here> and all hope appeared to be lost, ‘Walking on Sunshine’ by Katrina and the Waves came on the radio. The insanely upbeat pop hit from the band’s 1985 self-titled album which reached #4 in Australia, #9 in the United States, and #8 in the United Kingdom, had the effect of placating the steely combatants. The two rivals looked at each other, dropped their ray guns and hugged it out. It’s was Joey D’s ‘yureka’ moment. “I can fight crime and satisfy my soul by filling the Champlain Valley with the biggest hits from the ’70s and ’80s”! Which is at least as plausible a being Batman, right?
