The Vermont Walk to Defeat ALS is back at Oakledge Park in Burlington on September 26, 2026. Registration opens at 10 AM and opening ceremonies kick off at 11 AM.
ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. Today there is no known cause, cure, or effective treatment for ALS but with your help, there is hope for tomorrow.
The ALS Association is serving roughly 50 Vermonters with ALS at any given time with more cases expected to emerge as our state registry grows. The CDC estimates that Vermont has the highest prevalence of ALS per capita in the nation.
The ALS Association is the only national nonprofit serving the ALS community on all fronts: research, advocacy, and local care. All programs and services provided are completely free of charge thanks to the fundraising efforts of our community.
The Walk event provides a unique opportunity to bring together the ALS community. We honor those impacted by ALS and raise essential funds to work towards a cure all while advocating for and empowering those affected to live their lives to the fullest. Attendees will enjoy live music, yard games, a warm-up, vendors, snacks, and ice cream at the event.
